“Sophie agreeing to return home to NZ to take over the firm’s leadership is a major endorsement of MC as one of Aotearoa’s top law firms and number one in litigation,” says outgoing Managing Partner Steve Haszard, who led the extensive recruitment process. Sophie will absorb the managing partner role when Steve retires from the partnership on 30 June 2023 after nearly 25 years with MC.

MC is excited to announce top global Clifford Chance executive, Sophie Schwass will be joining MC as CEO in February.
Sophie, a New Zealander, with 13 years’ experience in global leadership roles is currently Chief Operating Officer for the UK region at Clifford Chance, one of the world’s ten largest law firms.
Sophie’s appointment is another example of the ongoing commitment to generational change and growth at NZ’s largest litigation firm.
