Catriona Wolfenden makes The Lawyer Hot 100 2025 list

Weightmans’ director of product and innovation, Catriona Wolfenden, has been included in The Lawyer Hot 100 2025 list.

The Hot 100 recognises and celebrates the UK’s most adventurous, most innovative and most dynamic lawyers. They encompass barristers, private practice solicitors and in-house lawyers of all ages, from all over the country.

Catriona leads the firm’s  product and innovation  initiatives, having joined Weightmans in 2007 as a paralegal and later cross qualifying as a solicitor. From a professional support lawyer role, she moved into innovation in 2018 and since then has created an award-winning product and innovation department, which most recently won the Technology Venture of the Year at the British Legal Technology Awards 2024.

The Lawyer Hot 100  praised Catriona for doubling her team to 34 in 2024 to meet “increasing demand for specialised software they develop across an ever-widening range of sectors that include police squads, steel manufacturing and transport”.

It adds:

“Wolfenden has had many cohorts of trainees under her wing. In the product and innovation seat “that everybody wants”, Wolfenden guides them to be the best tech-savvy, innovative lawyers they can be while giving them the opportunity to make connections in every corner of the firm.

“Wolfenden has big plans for 2025. She wants to develop Weightmans’ roadmap products, develop her team and solve clients’ problems by making calculated investments and focusing on what works. Her goal? Using her products and investments and focusing on what works. Her goal? Using her products and innovations to make her firm a top 30 player in the UK.”

Catriona Wolfenden, partner and director of product and innovation, said:

“I’ve looked at the Hot 100 list every year, amazed at the expertise of those on it, so to be included, and for a product and innovation role, is a proper ‘pinch me’ moment. Product and innovation in a law firm is very much a team endeavor, and I am lucky to benefit from a great team, colleagues and Board support, allowing us to see the possibility for our clients, our business and our people.”

John Schorah, managing partner, said:

“Cat thoroughly deserves this accolade. She has genuinely made a really positive impression among her peers and the market through her work on innovation. As well as the great work she has done in leading the firm’s award-winning product and innovation team, creating value for clients and tangible benefits for the firm, she has created careers for others and made a viable standalone business.”

In 2024, Catriona, alongside Weightmans’ chief innovation and technology officer,  Stuart Whittle, also launched a new book,  Innovation in Law Firms: Implementing Successful Projects , packed with insight on how to harness and implement innovation in a law firm.
